Death in the family?

I am feeling helpless – any suggestions?

My step-mom just died, she totally takes care of my dad. He is not an invalid it’s just that she did everything from food shopping to bringing home the bacon.

You see there retirement fund went up in flames a few years ago; lightning hit it. Dad can work around the yard and chop wood for the heat, but he is getting slower at this every year. He is 73 and living in Vermont. He has no income with out her and his pension is not going to cover weekly expenses, never mind monthly. And they already have a big property tax bill.

My sister and I are just getting by our selves and would love to help out but don’t know what to do.

I don’t even know if I can afford to drive my old car up to Vermont from Connecticut.

What does one do in these situations?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I havent expeirenced this but my friend who was like a sister to me died and it sucked. I couldnt go to the funeral I was to weak. I felt so guilty and couldnt do anything until I visted her grave. Just pray and good luck. And dont do anything reckless.

How high are gas prices going to get in Connecticut before things settle down in the middle east?

I live in plainville CT and r commuting to Greater Hartford for UCONN next year. Will I use a lot of gas doing that, I mean how high can these prices get. Just when I think things r gettin better for our country, this happens destroying us even more again. What if trucks stop delivering food and we all starve, I’m freaking out cause i don’t want to see my family suffer, thats my worst nightmare. These prices are getting insane, and I don’t know how i’m going to afford themHOW LONG BEFORE THINGS IN THE MIDDLE EAST SETTLE DOWN AND HOW HIGH CAN THEY GET!!!!!!!!!

Calm down. Adjust. Drive a fuel efficient car. No deliveries will stop. We have a huge reserve of oil on hand, years worth. Even if somehow the whole oil producing world cuts us off we have enough on hand for a few years. Fairly simply a car or truck can be converted to run on LNG (natural gas) and we actually have loads of that right here in this country. In fact it is cleaner to burn as well. Why we do not do it now is the real mystery. Gasoline in europe has been 3 times as high as here for decades, and they do fine.
